She has particular interest and experience in complex OCD presentations, including cases involving subtle or covert compulsions, reassurance seeking, significant avoidance, scrupulosity, phobias, panic, and OCD occurring alongside other conditions.
Julie has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families and has particular experience with clinically complicated presentations that may require careful differential diagnosis and individualized treatment planning. Her additional areas of experience include OCD and Tourette/tic-related symptoms, OCD with ADHD and other co-occurring concerns, pediatric and adolescent OCD, and parent accommodation. Her OCD training includes the International OCD Foundation's Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI), the inaugural Advanced BTTI training, and the Complex Case Symposium for Pediatrics & Adolescents. She has also completed training in SPACE, a parent-based treatment developed at Yale, and Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT). Julie has trained with and learned from recognized OCD clinicians including Aureen Pinto Wagner, David Burns, Patrick McGrath, Douglas Woods and Eric Storch. She has been a member of the International OCD Foundation since 2008 and previously served on the board of OCD Georgia. She has also presented on the treatment of OCD and related conditions at the Tourette Syndrome Conference in Atlanta.
In addition to providing clinical care, Julie offers professional consultation to therapists working with complex OCD and anxiety cases, particularly clinicians seeking an experienced perspective on case formulation, ERP implementation, covert compulsions, treatment obstacles and complicated presentations. After more than two decades in clinical practice, Julie is increasingly interested in sharing the practical clinical knowledge and judgment developed through years of treating complex cases with other mental-health professionals.
