I especially enjoy working with Panic, Phobias, Social Anxiety and OCD because Exposure Therapy produces results. It is extremely rewarding to witness clients overcome their issues and achieve their goals of attending college, entering into committed relationships, traveling, socializing and simply finding joy and pleasure in living life once again.

CBT FOR STRESS, GENERALIZED ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

Many individuals living with stress, depression, and generalized anxiety disorders have found help through therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing and relaxation training are some of the most effective treatment approaches used to help clients effectively manage their conditions. CBT is an action-oriented training that creates awareness of the thinking patterns that may be interfering with successful functioning. The therapist teaches clients to recognize maladaptive thinking and to replace it with healthier, more realistic perspectives. Once clients learn this process, they can use it for a lifetime. CBT is scientifically proven to be effective in treating both anxiety disorders and depression. CBT can also increase your psychological flexibility and can improve your ability to adjust to change.

There is also a behavioral component to the treatment that includes learning tools to help manage stress, anxiety and difficult emotions. For some anxiety disorders this may also include exposure exercises to gradually and gently help you habituate to places, people and things that currently trigger your anxiety. For individuals struggling with depression this may mean increasing engagement in physical activities, meaningful pursuits and relationships.

My goal is to help you learn the tools that enable you to effectively manage your behavioral health issues throughout your lifetime.

Specialty areas include anxiety-based disorders such as Separation Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Specific Phobias, and Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Disorders

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)

CBT FOR STRESS, GENERALIZED ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

Many individuals living with stress, depression, and generalized anxiety disorders have found help through therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing and relaxation training are some of the most effective treatment approaches used to help clients effectively manage their conditions.

CBT is an action-oriented training that creates awareness of the thinking patterns that may cause clients unnecessary stress. The therapist teaches clients to recognize harmful thinking and to replace it with realistic alternative perspectives. Once clients learn this process, they can use it for a lifetime. CBT is scientifically proven to be effective in treating both anxiety disorders and depression.

Relaxation Training utilizes breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, and other coping skills designed to calm the body's nervous system. These skills are painless, easy to use, and effective in quickly reducing one's stress level.

You can also learn to relax through biofeedback or having a visual representation of what is happening in your body. Julie uses a Heartmath handheld biofeedback machine to teach basic relaxation principles that are powerful enough to stop a panic attack that has already begun. Learning some of these basic principles of relaxation will empower you and offer encouragement that you can effectively manage your anxious symptoms.

Together we will work on increasing your awareness of emotions, thoughts, triggers, environmental factors and physical symptoms. We'll identify distorted ways of thinking that fuel anxiety and depression and we'll challenge perspectives that perpetuate your symptoms. You'll also be challenged to implement behaviors that can strengthen your ability to cope and decrease levels of anxiety and depression. Through these efforts you will increase your ability to choose effective behavior and increase your emotional flexibility.
